About Us

Ethiopian Mediation and Arbitration Center (EMAC) was formerly known as Ethiopian Arbitration and Conciliation Center (EACC) and established by a group of Ethiopian lawyers, with the aim of providing an alternate mechanism for private dispute resolution. The center provides arbitration and mediation services on various disputes including, commercial, labor, construction and family disputes. It is an independent body and facilitates the resolution of disputes in a non-adversarial atmosphere, by providing a service that is less costly and time saving than court litigation

Who We Are

EMAC is an independent and not for profit organization established in 2004, the center has been providing neutral arbitration and mediation services up until it was closed in 2013 due to the civil society proclamation enacted in 2009. The arbitral award given by the arbitrators and mediation settlements reached by parties have shown a good track record of enforcement. Following its reestablishment in 2019 the center continuous on providing neutral and enforceable arbitration and mediation services.

Arbitration and Mediation service

  • A fully functional venue for the provision of arbitration is set up at the center’s office in Addis Ababa.
  • Availability of a fully equipped Arbitration Center at the head office, strategically placed around Bole area, to be accessible to all, including international organizations and businesses seeking to resolve disputes through professional institutionalized arbitration, made institutionalized ADR service that meet international standards available and accessible.
  • Mediation services are provided by the center in Addis Ababa and the regions, at venues, where mediation rooms have been set up.

Research and Publications

Publications

  • Publications such as four volumes of journals on arbitral awards, detailing reasoning and decisions on disputes resolved through arbitration, which set precedent for future hearings and which helped enrich the jurisprudence in the area were published.
